Tata going ahead with their Rs. 1 Lakh Car
Tata Motors is one of the India’s leading automobile manufacturers. They stormed the Indian market with their small car Tata Indica and created history with the number of orders they received within a couple of days. It continues to remain one of the popular selling models in the Indian market. However, the vision of the company has an automobile, which would be affordable to the common man and would cost around just Rs. 1 Lakh.
This amount comes to around USD 2300 and is quite complicated to achieve considering the costing of the equipment involved. The company believes that the Indian auto market is expected to expand in the coming years and they would like to stay in it for a long time. Tata is pretty confident that they should be able to launch this car in the retail market in the next three years.
Group chief Ratan Tata has now confirmed that the car would be gearless and would be powered by a rear engine. Competitors have claimed that developing an automobile for such a low price would be pretty much impossible but Tata Motors is confident that they would be able to achieve their goals. Tata said in a statement: “I hope so. Just like people ate their words on Indica they would realize that there is something (Rs 1 lakh car) that can be done.”
They have clarified that their vision is of a proper car, which won’t be just another three-wheeler, or an auto-rickshaw made into a car.
