Microsoft joins hands with Orange to challenge Apple Motorola iTunes Phone

Apple is expected to anytime launch their much awaited mobile phone product they are co-developing along with mobile company Motorola which would be compatible with the Apple iTunes digital music store. This would let the owners of this phone to access the Apple iTunes web store and purchase and download songs to listen on the phone itself.

The launch was expected to come yesterday but it seems to be delayed. However, the competition is already preparing to tackle this giant from the Macintosh maker. Apple’s primary competitor Microsoft has joined hands with mobile connection provider Orange to develop similar products to compete with Apple iTunes Mobile Phone.

Microsoft believes that the market would continue to grow at a fast pace and the market for this mobile music download service would be worth a lot in the coming times. They are making efforts to make an early entry so as to prevent Apple from dominating this as they do with the digital music player market with their iPod product.

Market reports claim that Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has persuaded Orange to develop a mobile phone, the SPV C550, which will double as a Microsoft music player. Microsoft spokesman Jason Langridge said in a statement: “The mobile digital music market is about to take off. Porting digital music on to mobile phones represents a massive opportunity for Microsoft. While Apple has sold about 10m iPods worldwide to date, a quarter of the world’s population own mobile phones, which Microsoft software can turn into digital music players.”

The timing of this deal is interesting considering Apple has been planning to launch their product since quite sometime and a press meet scheduled for yesterday was expected to be the day for the launch of Apple Motorola iTunes Mobile Phone.

The launch was expected to come yesterday but it seems to be delayed – It was never *expected* to be on the 5th. The date was announced to be the 7th. So there is no question for it to be on the 5th as *expected*
