China Southern Airlines has big orders for Airbus
China Southern Airlines Co. is the China’s second biggest airline company. And china happens to be one of the fastest growing airline markets in the world. The airline company has just confirmed orders with Airbus, which are worth more than $1.8 Billion. This is something of a boost for the Europe based airline manufacturer, which is competing, with America’s Boeing for domination in the industry.
China Southern Airlines would be purchasing 10 Airbus SAS planes. They have signed an order for eight A330-300s and two A330-200 planes to fly on domestic and Asian routes. The news was confirmed by Airbus who e-mailed this statement to various news agencies. The ceremony was attended by U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair and China’s Premier Wen Jiabao.
China has one of the biggest buyers of airlines this year. Their state owned airline companies have placed big orders with the manufacturers of these consumer jets. The total orders from the country are for around 165 planes valued at $17 billion from Airbus and Chicago-based Boeing. The sad news for Airbus is that most of these orders were placed with Boeing.
These latest orders would bring the market ratio to somewhat similar levels between the two giants.
