Toyota to offer a device to detect lack of attention on the roads
World’s second largest automaker Toyota is going to offer a new safety device on some of their selected vehicles which monitors the attention of the driver and alarm them if they are not looking at the road in front. The company says that the device would help the driver stay alert and keep his attention on the road.
This alone would help in preventing a lot of accidents as experts believe most of them happen when the driver of the vehicle gets his attention diverted off the roads. Toyota has developed this image-processing computer system, which uses a camera near the steering wheel to detect when the driver stops looking straight ahead.
If it happens, the system flashes a light on the dashboard display and emits a beeping noise. If the driver still fails to respond to the alert, the automobile automatically tries to slow down the vehicle to prevent any massive damage. Toyota plans to offer this new tech gadget on their Lexus luxury models set to be sold in Japan in spring next year.
