Computer sales on a rise in Indian Market

India is a developing country and still manages to give US Companies nightmares with their outsourcing industry. The PC penetration is still very low and there is a huge prospect for PC manufacturers to lure more people into buying computers. The market is growing rapidly and the sales of computers touched an impressive 1.01 million during the April-June first quarter. This is a growth of around 8.6% compared to last year as per reports released by country’s main hardware trade body.

The Manufacturers’ Association of Information Technology also said that the market is growing at such a pace that it might exceed the initial target of 4.2 million units for the current year due to end at March 2006. MAIT executive director Vinnie Mehta said in a statement: “This buoyancy makes us hope we’ll proudly overshoot our targets, though we don’t want to revise the official target.”

The Indian market saw 930,000 computers being sold during the April-June 2004 quarter. In addition, 3.6 million computers were purchased for the fiscal year that ended in March 2005. The agency also said that the availability of the software usable in local dialects and languages aided this growth of computer sales in the domestic market in India.

Also helping the cause is the growing reach of broadband connectivity through out the country. Both BSNL and MTNL has helped fueling the broadband availability around the country and the power people get after connecting to internet has got people rushing to buy computers.
