Hewlett-Packard to cut jobs in Europe
America based tech giant Hewlett-Packard is soon due to announce a decision to cut their workforce in their European operations as per the information released from workers union. They are expected to relieve around 6000 workers with France, Germany and Britain divisions being the worst affected.
Marc-Antoine Marcantoni of the European Metal Workers Federation in Brussels said in a statement: “They will start informing staff in all the countries in the coming week. But the information was given to the European works council at a meeting here.†Belgium is due to get the least affected as only 145 jobs are said to be in danger.
The company itself has refused to comment on this news, which would come as sad news in the market considering HP has been one of the companies in rather good financial condition. They currently employ around 151,000 people around the world. However, another representative from the company did confirm that a meeting took place with the European works council had taken place in Brussels.
The reports can be true considering the company had already stated that they planned to slash about 10 percent of its work force sometime back.
