Ford expects to double their sales with their new car

American automaker Ford is soon expected to launch their brand new car in India, which they have specifically developed for the Indian market. With this luxury car to be placed between the Ford Ikon and Ford Mondeo, the company expects to double its sales to 50,000 units next year. Vice President, Sales, and Marketing Ford India V Sivaramakrishnan said in a statement: “We will double our sales to 50,000 units next year. We are hopeful that the launch of the new premium car will help us increase our sales.”

This new car from Ford would feature a turbo diesel common-rail injection (TDCi) engine, which would be new for this market, and the company would be advertising it aggressively to get the consumer interest in it. The company also plans to launch a petrol version of this model for the consumer who dislikes diesel-based cars. This petrol engine would be sourced from Hindustan Motors.

Ford has invested around 100 million dollar in the new car and it has been developed by Ford’s global engineering and design team supported by a specialized team of Indian engineers. The company has ensured that it would feature a lot of localized material to keep the costing low to stay competitive in the domestic market of India.

Ford has till now invested around $470 million since its foray into India and sells around 24,000 units per year currently.

Our PSFK India Expert tells us: “This seems like PR to me. Ford is way behind Suzuki and Hyundai and TATA and are playing catch up. Ford Ikon has definitely done well but maybe Mondeo will let them turn the tide.”
