Seagate Technology acquires Server maker Mirra

Tech giants and the maker of storage devices Seagate Technology have announced plans to acquire Mirra with plans to develop a system which would enable the users to access their home and small-office content from any Internet-connected PC. The storage company did not reveal the financial details of this acquisition but this news means that Mirra is now a fully owned entity of Seagate.

Seagate is expected to keep all the existing employees of the company they have acquired. Mirra currently have 34 workers on their payroll and they developed personal servers that continuously and automatically back up files, photos, and other digital content from multiple devices. This content was later made available on the internet for making it accessible from anywhere in the world.

Seagate executive vice president Brian Dexheimer spoke about their latest acquisition: “If you had three years’ worth of digital photos on your network, you could share those with your mother in another state. All she would need to access the content is a special password and a Web browser.” Most of the Mirra’s existing product range already uses Seagate products and hence the company knew each other for sometime now.

Seagate believes that this acquisition is just another extension for their existing range of software and hardware products and would benefit their consumers in the time to come.
