Volkswagen to make their car mp3 player friendly
German automaker and the maker of the popular Beetle automobiles Volkswagen are planning to make their vehicles digital music player friendly. With the growing popularity of devices like the Apple iPod, it has become crucial for carmakers to support these gadgets to lure in the teenage crowd of today. More and more automakers are launching kits to adopt the stereo systems in their cars to support these third party devices.
Volkswagen is now offering a stereo component that lets motorists plug in all manner of portable digital players including the most popular of them all the iPod. Drivers would even be able to manage their tunes and podcasts on a dashboard display. The company is making the USB connection an option on its Golf, Golf Plus, and Touran models in December and on remaining models next year.
This option would come in two choices. One would be exclusively for the Apple iPod and the other one would support all USB capable digital music players. The setup will cost US$240. The system would enable display of up to six of the player’s folders on the car stereo display system making it easier for the driver to choose the track of his choice.
