Ford to massively push their Hybrid efforts

Realizing that they can no longer rely on traditional technologies to continue to lure customers to their products, America’s second largest automaker Ford has announced big plans for their Hybrid products division. Ford has announced plans to boost global production of hybrid vehicles tenfold by 2010. The company’s Chief Executive Bill Ford made the announcement yesterday.

Ford plans to have half of their Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars, and light trucks to feature hybrid technology by 2010 in what can be considered a rather revolutionary step taken by the company. The company is struggling in their domestic market with Japanese makers like Honda and Toyota impressing the consumers with their reliable and efficient products.

Ford also announced that they plan to have a capacity of around 250,000 hybrid vehicles by that time. Their current capacity is less than 10% of their targeted goals. Bill Ford also announced that they would launch four vehicles in 2006 that will run largely on ethanol to provide consumers with vehicles, which can run on alternative fuels than just gasoline.
