Oracle says most workers of Siebel would stay

Oracle recently made the announcement that they were taking over their smaller competitor Siebel in order to get a larger hold in their market. And the latest information in says that the CEO of Oracle Larry Ellison has confirmed that the company plans to retain most of the employees of their acquisition after completing the $5.9 billion takeover of the business software maker.

Oracle is rapidly taking steps to expand their business operations beyond database products. And this acquisition is one of the major steps in that direction. Siebel, based in San Mateo, specializes in software for managing customer relations and employs about 5,000 people worldwide. They have been just one of the many companies Oracle has taken over in the last couple of months. This of course includes the PeopleSoft acquisition, which went through a rather complicated legal intervention.

Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison said: “Siebel has already had a number of reorganizations. We will be retaining the bulk of those people. We didn’t acquire the company to lay thousands of people off.” He was talking to the reporters after giving a keynote address in San Francisco at the Oracle OpenWorld conference for customers. He also said that it would take them a couple of months to realize how to incorporate the Siebel’s workforce and working environment into their own structure.

Ellison also said that he believed Siebel’s experience would be very valuable at Oracle for the next few years.’
