Ford to launch Fiesta in India in November
The news is finally out! Ford has announced that they would be launching their new premium mid-sized sedan ‘Fiesta‘ by November this year in the Indian market. The company has been developing a car for the Indian market since quite sometime now but few details were out related to it. Their were some scoop pictures shown in the auto magazines on this vehicle but now its pretty clear that the company would be branding the car Fiesta.
Ford India Managing Director and President, Mr Arvind Mathew said in a statement about this announcement: “The Fiesta would be positioned at the top end of the mid sized sedan segment, while Ikon remains at the entry level of that segment.” This model would be made available in both petrol and diesel variant though no details have been revealed about the pricing of these cars.
This model is now expected to compete with Toyota’s Corolla and Hyundai’s Elantra in the premium mid sized car segment. Ford would be placing this model between their existing offering Ford Ikon and Ford Mondeo. Their other model Fusion is placed in a total different category and does not compete with any other car in particular. Fiesta will hit dealer showrooms during the first week of November and would be sold to customers by mid November.
The company would be using ‘Dura’ for their petrol edition and their proprietary TDCi (Turbo Direct Common Rail injection) technology for the rapidly increasing demand of a diesel variant of the car.

Update about your new model ford fiesta
Originally the Fiesta is a car that is equivalent to Zen/Santro. I do not uderstand as to why they wish to launch it in competition to Corolla??? Indians travel abroad very frequently and know very well what a fiesta is. If this is going to be in competion to Corolla, it better out of the world, as the Indian customer is not ignorant of what he/she is buying now.
Ford’s Fiesta is using the engine of the current model “Fusion” which delivers a lovely 101@6500 bhp power and a torque of 143@3400 rpm. The 1.6 seems quite efficient and powerfull enough for this segment sedan. Comparing the Fiesta with the Zen/Santro is nowhere sensible where the zen is powered by 993 CC engine and the santro 1086 cc which is far below the 1600 cc of the fiesta’s. The Fiesta has a boot size of 486 Liters too which bring it up from the segment of the small sized Zen/Santro…
The ford Guys have launhed it today… but no word on pricing yet.. meanwhile Lancer has dropped mrp by 100K !! Whoa to more competition !
Hi,
If its going to be priced like corrolla or elentra then consider it a failed car. 1.4 tdci for 10 lcas huh no one is going to purchase it.
Should’nt i get elentra instead ? ;-)
Thanks.
I believe that Ford is creating unnecessary hype over Fiesta to boost sales and from holding people who are planning to buy mid-size cars. Finally, this will be a flop as we can see in the picture, the car size looks too small for a premium mid-size segment. It looks as good as Fiat Petra (Sienna) and the pricing is said to be around 8 lakhs. Cant we get a better car for the same money. Anyways, wait and watch…..
People who compares Indian version of Fiesta to teh american one should first know it is not the same fiesta that is getting launched in India. It is certainly different to that in the US. Not always the same name means that the same car. Example, Maaturi Esteem calles as Suzuki Shift in Europre whereas We got totally different car in the name Maruthi Swift in India. similarly We have ford fusion in India whearas Ford Fusion in US is a Sedan that is replacing The Taurus in end 2005.
People who compared this with Corolla, Elantra are also wornd as this car belongs not to the D segment but to the premium C segment which is having Honda City, Baleno, GM Optra etc and not Corolla, Elantra or Skoda.
Ford should ensure speedy delivery of their abs fitted fiestas; my poor cousin pradeep kanianthra is cooling himself for a month after paying the full amount at pvs ford, calicut, kerala. Its pathetic
it is.an interstin car ,the only concern its aftersales service ! kindly sent me its sevice station
