Sony introduces touch screen functionality in Cyber-shot DSC-N1

Entertainment giants Sony have launched what is their first digital camera with a touch screen capable digital display. The company announced their new product Cyber-shot DSC-N1 that is an 8.1-megapixel ultra compact digital camera, which includes a touch screen. Sony would be aiming at their mainstream customers wanting better functionality with their portable digital cameras.

They also want to market it as a camera not just for shooting, but for sharing and showing. It is expected to be competing with the Kodak’s WiFi-enabled EasyShare One camera with its easy usage. However, they would be pretty disappointed that Nikon and Kodak already have products in the market, which are Wi-Fi enabled.

Cyber-shot DSC-N1 is less than an inch thick and features a 3-inch, transmissive and reflective LCD. The camera also comes with features like Pocket Album and Slide Show with music capabilities. The touch screen capability means that users can touch the screen with their fingers to activate various functions, instead of needing a stylus.

Sony would be making this camera available in the retail market for around $499.95 (list), and will start shipping in late November of this year.
