Sun and Google in a multiyear pact on software technology promotion

This news might be one of the many more coming in the next couple of months to show what Google has in store for Microsoft when it comes to the latter’s core business of software development. Google and Sun Microsystems have just gone into a multi year pact as per which the search engine giant would be promoting Sun’s software technologies to their customers.

This can be considered a direct attack at the Microsoft’s core technologies, which specializes in delivering Operating System solutions and Office Suite applications. Sun develops Solaris operating system and is the force behind the open source OpenOffice suite, which competes directly with Microsoft Office. With Microsoft due to launch Office 12 sometime next year, it would be a great boost to the OpenOffice initiative.

Both the companies would also work together on promoting Java Desktop, which runs thousands of PC programs. In return, Sun would be including an offer to install Google Desktop as an option when consumers download Java for the desktop. Both the companies have a common goal to give consumer an alternative option to Microsoft’s applications and services. And with employees, who have worked in both the companies, they share a special bond.

The products made by Sun would help Google compete better with Microsoft’s expertise in delivering enterprise solutions to large corporations. And Sun benefits from the huge brand recognition Google has in the consumer base around the world.
