Sony Ericsson launches W900 UMTS handset

Apple has made the music player and mobile market interesting by launching their products like the iPod nano, Motorola ROKR and the iPod Video. Sony is ever there trying to catch up and stay competitive with the Macintosh maker and the latest product out from the company is the new Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) handset codenamed W900.

This device is a music player, phone and imaging device capable of downloads of all types of multimedia – music, video, and graphics. The company is also due to launch its previous walkman branded mobile phones W600 and W550 in wider markets than now. Sony has developed the W900 phone so that it is very easy for the computer to manage music.

W900 lets user import, transfer, manage, and play music from operators’ over-the-air (OTA) music download services in addition to allowing tracks to be downloaded directly to the phone, while on the move and from a PC. This is very unlike the Motorola ROKR phone from Apple, which has limited functionality and pretty bad storage capacities. It is really interesting to notice that Apple is due to launch another new product tomorrow and Sony would be watching out for that.
