Warner brothers back Sony Blu-Ray DVD format
Warner Bros. has become the second major movie studios to actively back both the under developed next generation DVD formats. They just announced their decision to support the Sony’s Blu-Ray format. This again comes to Sony’s advantage considering Warner would now also be shipping their digital content on Blu-Ray format.
Warner Bros. announced their plans of joining the board of the Blu-ray Disc Association. They had already made it clear that they would be releasing their movies on the Toshiba’s backed HD DVD format. Paramount is the other movie studio that has announced plans to support both the standards. Until now, the major studios of the world were equally divided between the two groups trying to set the standards for next generation DVD based storage devices.
Now. NBC Universal remains the only major studio to stand solely behind the Toshiba’s HD DVD format. However, the problem point for Toshiba is that none of the supporters of Blu-Ray has until now announced their plans to support HD DVD standard. Marsha King, representative of Warner Bros said in a statement: “We are going to put our product on for consumers on both formats.â€
She added: “The market will decide if the functionality, if the price, if the consumer offering is what they want.”
