Cisco plans to invest USD 50 million in Bangalore
Networking giant Cisco Systems has announced their plans to invest big in the IT city of India, Bangalore. They are going to be developing a new one-million-square-ft campus in the city to support its staff. And this includes their workers in the research and development team as well as the people working in IT, sales, and customer support team.
They would be spending close to around USD 50 million for this integrated campus scheduled to be completed by 2007. Mr. John Chambers, president, Cisco made this groundbreaking announcement at the unveiling of the new facility. He claimed that the campus would be big enough to support a base of 3000 workers.
This news comes just after the company announced their plans to invest close to USD 1 Billion in expanding their Indian based operations. The company believes India to be a strategic market for them both in terms of business opportunities and as a base for outsourcing engineering talent. Chambers said in a statement: “With the launch of the new campus in Bangalore, Cisco will be well placed to continue building its presence in the country.â€
Cisco entered the Indian market way back in 1994. And their first research and development centre in India was established in 1998. They currently employ more than 1,400 people at its centers in Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, and Hyderabad.
