Amazon to launch a development center in Chennai

After call centers, it looks like India is the prime market for the development centers for the American companies. We already have a major presence in the form of software companies and now Cisco and Amazon has shown their interest. Seattle-based Amazon.com, Inc., a Fortune 500 company has announced their plans to set up a software development centre (SDC) in Chennai.

This branch of Amazon.com would be focusing on the development of new and innovative web site features to help Amazon’s customers around the world find stuff they want to purchase online easily. The Indian center would be managing all technology aspects of the web site features developed at this location.

This ownership would include idea generation, analysis, and technical design, as well as front, middle and back-tier software development across a variety of architectures and technologies. Amazon already has another of their SDC setup in India at Bangalore and this one would be their second of such SDC.

The company expects the SDC in Chennai to be operational by the end of the year and aims to tap the pool of talent available in Chennai.
