Zee Dish TV is a startup that never started for me

Like most places out there, there is a monopoly of the only Cable TV Operator in my sector too. He charges a bomb, service sucks, and for any complaint he has a common answer, the service from the main operator is messed up. Having a big fight with him, I started looking for alternatives. There were not many.

Zee’s Dish TV was the only other option I had. I am not exactly a fan of the Zee brand. Their channels suck, their websites are awful and they are kinda arrogant losers for me. Anyways, I tried to give it a go. Checked the website, which was very unfriendly from the point of accessibility as expected but somehow managed to get 3 shops which were offering Dish TV in Panchkula. Dialed the first one. The number came out to be non functional. So much so for a service that’s not even properly launched. Tried the second number. And this time managed to get hold of a pretty friendly individual. But as it turned out, he too was no longer associated with Zee’s Dish TV. The reason as per him being… Zee charges a bomb as initial installation and registration fees. It comes to around seven thousand bucks. Out of which the distributor gets only 5%. After the dish is installed there is no service received from the Zee people. The charges are increased every month while the service gets awful with every month. The consumer shouts at the local CTO (like I do at Sify’s CTOs!) where he is completely powerless to do anything (unlike Sify’s CTOs). So, he left the dealership quiet some time back. So much so for good PR. The website lists numbers to dealers who are no longer associated with the Dish TV service and worse, they are the people who are frustrated and angry with the parent company to have given them such a hard time pleasing their customers while bulk of the money went to the parent company ZEE.

So, Zee is still not able to manage the Dish TV business which comes under DTH technology, they have already announced something called DTT service in India. Where they plan to directly telecast movies to Theatres over India. Maybe, they would do better by going back to the original story board and see what they can manage before they launch anything new.

I am happy I did not waste 7000 bucks. I can live without TV for small durations rather than another crappy service (in addition to Sify broadband) to add to my tensions.

The website too unfriendly. The resposes are too sluggish. Dish Tv has retained 48 channels for pretty long time increasing the frustration of the customer.

Even till today the customers do not know how many channels one and receive and what are they.

One cannot survive only by the quality one needs to give value for money.

At present it is waste of time and money.

zee must bring down the initial investment cost to somewhere around 3000 and improve service quality as well.also they should make sure all regional language channels should be covered for a particular package

Totally awful service. Their number 1600123474(dish) should be replaced with 16001278257(sucks).Arrogant and moronic customer care officer highlight the service. Totally inflexible plans. you have to pay three months in advance for channels you wish to watch and there is no way you can discontinue any plan if you dont want. They are very choosy to get you the sloppiest of all channels. you will realize you are paying rs 400 to watch a bunch of total 103 useless channels including your regional channels. No access to star or sony group channels. all your left with is HBO AND ZEE ENGLISH FOR the civilized world. if you take the service you will be thinking of how much will kabaadi wala pay you for the 12 inch dish once you say good bye to their service..

    Sir
I think these all views are quite old. Every new operation takes time to get mature and become more customer friendly. Zee’s DTH has matured enough and now they are providing good services and better pay option like ther recent offer of Dish Har Chat Per If they continue with these type of schemes they can lead the DTH industry they have potential and they can do that.

    Sub: DTH system in Mumbai.
    Mr Sunil Khanna,

It is indeed gratifying to note that Zee TV plans DTH services(PPV/PVR)in Mumbai by mid-oct.

What a relief to all TV subscribers in Mumbai who are tired and harrassed by existing system for freuent, unilateral price hike. The system is monopolistic and forced upon has to be ended for having held consumersto ransom for years.

Government too shpould not be the silent spectator at this time but to push system faster to rescue the people.

Television is not only the entertainment industry but the service industry imparting knowledge to every section of society to keep pace with the world’s progress at reasonable cost.

Will not this the right time for company like Zee TV to help the poor people of this country. A small request to them that further detailsthrough press and their TV chanels will certainly boost for more subcribers and exceptance then expected.

Hearty congratulations to you Mr. Sunil Khanna. Many co-operator society’s secretary would like to meet you for discussion.

    Kindly advise,

    Mr. Hareshwar Sawe

Yes! now a days Zee has a monopoly in DTH & increasing the rent of channels day by day. those channels (HBO, Zee viewers) which require by the customer are at very high price. Currently i am not watching cable / DTH. Now i am very very happy.
Waiting for Star to launch the DTH, cause Zee channels are thirdclass.

Recently, I took Dish TV becuase they advertised that the sound is of STEREO. But, I found that only HBO channel is beaming STEREO sound. When I asked them they said that only 13 channels are in STEREO.To my surprise none of the ZEE channels are in STEREO.They have not mentioned eother on their website or printed literature that only on select channels like HBO Stereo sound is available. DISH TV is simply misleading the customer that sound on their DTH is of STEREO. Surendranath

    Now i dont watch television

I am residing at Bangalore considered on of most happening cities in India. In our place the cable connection is a monopoly and hence no competition. We have to watch cable tv without any clarity. We complained a lot. The rude and arrogant cable operator never turned up . He will shout for calling him. He will switch off his phone. We got fed up and told him we will only pay cable rent if they make the signal clear. After some months he increased the clarity of the signal and then as a punishment for telling him not to pay the rent until the cable is made clear he cut my cable connection. Since no other neighbours responded when the cable was not clear he didnt cut their connection. When i asked neighbours why they dont respond even if it is not clear, they tell me that they will also have to bear the punishment the cable operator will give by cutting the connection. Since there is no competitors they can do that. I went again to the cable guys office for getting back the connection and paid one months rent even though i didnt have the connection for the past two months. But he simply dont gave the connection back. He is denying cable connection to my house. When i went to another cable operator nearby our locality, he told me that he cannot enter to our area since that area is under our cable operators range. Since the cable operators are local people and seems like they can go to any extend if i quarrel with them and since i am alone and an immigrant to bangalore from a neighbouring state with nobody to support i thought of not responding to this injustice. I decided to take dish connection. But again due to the lack of good channels in dishtv i decided not to go for that. Its competitor space tv also dont have much channels. They only provide star networks channel. Both these DTH channel are comparitievly costly than cable tv and dont have much channels cable tv.
So i decided not to go for any tv connections until there is a good and quality service. So i dont watch television nowadays. But i have a found that life is more beautiful now so that i find lot of time to talk with my wife and spend on other tasks which are one way more creative.

I had recently been on a one month holiday to a place that was away from the maddening crowds of Mumbai. The place was very scenic, calm and quite. The hotel cottage had no TV.

At the end of one month, I was surprised I got along very fine without the TV. In fact, I managed to finish several books I carried with me.

Back in Mumbai, I simply thanked the cable guy for his exorbitant services and told him I would not be requiring it hence forth. Communication in the house increased. Instead of simply sitting in front of the idiot box like zombies, we began to talk more and read more. TV takes away a lot more than just your money – day in and day out it feeds you trash and numbs your brain. Do you really need all that – specially when its 40% ads?

    hi

ZEE Dish tv is a perfect NO-NO.
Has anyone experienced the DTH service called DD DIRECT.
This service was inaugrated by our PM on 16 dec 05, and the initial cost for this comes to around rs. 3000 and there is NO month cost. FREE FOR LIFE

You get only free to air channels in this.
    This includes

    Doordarshan Channels
    DD-National DD-News DD-Sports DD-India DD-Bharati DD-Bangla DD-Chandana DD-Gujarati DD-Kashir DD-Malayalam DD-North East DD-Oriya DD-Podhigai DD-Punjabi DD-Sahayadri DD-Sapthagiri DD-Gyandarshan DD-Lok Sabha and DD-Rajya Sabha

    Private Channels
Sun TV, Star Utsav, MH1, Jain TV, Akash Bangla, Kairali, BBC World, ETC Punjabi, Smile TV, Zee Music, Aaj Tak, Headlines Today, TV9 & ETV Marathi

RADIO CHANNELS: 17 music chaneels from AIR

for someone like me, hindi speaking.,,
    I get 2-3 entertainment channels,
    few music channels,
sports channel from DD which will always carry matches being played in India.
3-4 news channels including aajtak and BBC.

I think for me, its a good alternative which fulfills my basic requirements. I may not get a sas bahu serail but i do not need it.

As it is , channels are on an overkill these days and its good to go back to DD and whatever it has to offer. People are already fed up with TV and are going back to the books,.

I think this is the most balanced alternative available.

As far as technical feasibility is concwerned,
well dd-direct is accessible from ANYWHERE in the country.
The Set top box consumes 40 W power
The STb and the dish are generic and are freely available.
    check out http://www.apnadth.com & http://WWW.DDINEWS.COM

The above two sights are very informative and discuss the service at length.
And for a difference, they sound as HONEST as anything could be.

Its taking Zee forever to add Star’s and Discovery’s channels to its package.

The cable walah monoply is an abuse in a democratic setup.

It is against Human rights. We won from the Britishers but lost to cable walas as this democratic system has failed to protect our rights. Worst, its 2006 and Zee still cannot provide service worth its exorbitant price.

Perhaps its time to shun Tv alltogether and go back to active entertainment instead of being passive zombies.
