Ford India launches Ford Fiesta

The most awaited vehicle from the Ford brand in India is finally out. Ford India has finally launched the hot sedan Ford Fiesta in the Indian market. The company aims to corner a larger share of the fast growing mid-size segment and garner the much-needed volumes. They also claimed that India happens to be at the top of their priority list when it comes to expanding their operations outside the United States.

Ford Motor Company Chairman and CEO Bill Ford said in a statement during the launch: ”As we accelerate our effort to meet the global challenges of our business, I have emphasized the importance of optimizing our global footprint by investing in areas that are growing. India is right at the top of that list.”

However, they have not given out any details on what further investment Ford is looking into to make in the Indian market. The Ford Fiesta in India would be available in two variants - the Duratec petrol 1.6 liter and the Duratec 1.4 liter TDCi diesel. The prices however have not been revealed which is somewhat of a disappointment considering the market in India is very cost conscious.

The car is being targeted to fill the space between GM Optra and Honda City and is expected to generate volumes for the company which has failed to generate much excitement after the launch of Ford Ikon a couple of years back. Ford is producing the petrol engine and the gearbox locally but is importing the turbo diesel engine from Europe. They have developed this fantastic turbo diesel engine along with Peugeot-Citroen of France.

It seems that the “FIESTA” will somehow revive the “FORD” Brand India. What is the pricing ???

Will it be shorter, narrower and stubbier than the Hyundai Accent, yet overpriced? That shouts out “downmarket” !!
Don’t mean to be a Ralph Nader, but how crashworthy will it be. The Ikon’s crashworthiness is abysmally atrocious.

Its Stupid that the company gets their CEO all the way to India to tell us that its 1.6 Petrol, 1.4 Diesel and who tells us the specs…even the showroom staff has no clue, that too in a booming market like Bangalore. Clear case of bad planning.

it sure seems like a good buy, but highly a mis managed launch… the good thing is, this would start a price war…honda, accent etc would have to come down…2 to 3 mths best time to select and pick up one..

After thorough disappointment on having to wait for specs, I could finally see the site today - fordfiesta.in. This car sure is great stuff, atleast the specs and what they claim on the website surely suggests that attention has been paid to minute details. Just managed to book one by paying a token 50K. The dealer has no clue about delivery sched for any model, must get their act straight before they frustrate their prospective customers.

I am looking for any opinions about Fords performance. Are they doing a good job providing after sales service? What about their car styles, are they popular? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like everyone has either good things or nothing to say about fiesta….any drawbacks that that one has been able to figure out yet??!! Would like to know the downside of the model before I book one.

This car needs no assembly line , it’s “assembled in heart”,sober to suite ‘Abhishek’,”the sober icon”…..

Too much hype has been created about Ford Fiesta. The entire launch has been mis managed, dealers have been kept in the dark about delivery schedules, etc. I had booked one at a Hyderabad showroom and it has been one of my most frustrating experiences! Certain disturbing news about its engine performance have also come to light. Contemplating on canceling the booking and vow never ever to go for FORD.
