Honda Civic is the most stolen vehicle in the United States
The popularity of the Japanese vehicles in the North American market can be seen from the fact that the most stolen vehicle here is in fact the Honda Civic model. The National Insurance Crime Bureau, which tracks insurance crimes, released the research report. They said that motor vehicle theft was down 1.9 percent last year. However, around 1.2 million vehicles were still reported to be stolen.
The report also highlighted the fact that except for west, vehicle theft was down in all the regions. Compared to 2003, western region saw theft of cars rise by around 36.2%. The organization also released a list of the vehicles, which were popular amongst thieves of such vehicles. Honda Civic topped the list followed by 1994 Dodge Caravan; the 1994 Chevrolet C/K 1500; the 1997 Ford F-150; the 2003 Dodge Ram; the 1990 Acura Integra; the 1988 Toyota Pickup and the 1991 Nissan Sentra.
The report also mentioned the fact that Honda Civic and Toyota Camry were some of the most popular cars in the country. The group also said that one of the best defenses against such thefts is to use locks. Installing third party visible and audio alarms also helped in deterring the thieves.
