Hewlett-Packard announces AMD based HP bc1500 blade PC

AMD is getting more and more support from the PC manufacturers in the United States. Sun, Acer, and Lenovo all makes PCs based on AMD processors. Even Intel loyalist Dell has started selling AMD processors on their website. Hewlett-Packard is also a major PC vendor selling PCs based on AMD processors. The latest from HP is the new range of blade PC featuring AMD64 technology.

Hewlett-Packard has announced the availability of new HP bc1500 blade PC. This is the latest addition to the HP Consolidated Client Infrastructure (CCI) product line aimed at reducing the cost of managing desktop PCs. CCI combines a desktop access device such as an HP Compaq Thin Client with a dedicated HP blade PC running Windows XP Professional.

The HP bc1500 blade PC features a low-power AMD Athlon 64 processor. However, the performance-per-watt of the AMD processors allows HP to install as many as 280 blades in a standard 19-inch rack. Ted Bodeman, director of PC Blade and Thin-Client Solutions in HP’s Personal Systems Group said in a statement: “Customers can move large numbers of PCs into the data center and deliver a desktop server to PC users and ‘desktop extender’ notebook users.”
