Samsung starts mass-producing 512MB DRAM

South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced that they have started to mass-produce the 512MB DRAM (dynamic random access memory) for mobile products. They are using the advance 90-nanometer circuitry, which is a first for the company. The demand for high capacity RAM for mobiles has increased in the recent times with new features appearing in mobile phones like cameras and video recorders.

The company also aims to double its annual sales in the next five years for this kind of RAM products. Samsung is already the world’s largest manufacturer of flash memory and also the third largest mobile phone maker. They are expecting the sales of their mobile phones to grow up to 20 percent to 120 million phones in 2006.

In addition, they also want to keep the prices of their mobile products low to keep the consumer interest on. Mobile phone usage is increasing continuously around the world with the average growth rate expected to stay at around 9 percent per year between 2005 and 2010. This would mean that the demand for higher capacity memory storage for the mobile products would remain strong in the coming years.
