Apple shipping protective covers with iPod nano

Apple has been much in news for their recently launched Apple iPod nano music player. The tiny digital music player comes loaded with flash memory enabling the company to give it a rather small footprint. However, the launch was marred by news and reports in the media with people complaining that the digital screen of the device was prone to scratching leading to heavy damage to the music player.

Apple earlier denied that their were any problems with the screens of the iPod nano. However, later promised to replace any defective units. Nevertheless, the company has already been sued by groups of iPod nano owners claiming that the company delivered a substandard product in the market. The lawsuit is also not limited to USA only as consumers from other countries have also chipped in.

Now, Apple is trying to ease the situation by shipping a white fabric-and-plastic slipcover that
Apple iPod resembles the one shipping with the new video iPod. This somewhat can be considered as an admission from their part that iPod nano should be carried around in a protective cover. In fact, they had previously mentioned in one of their statements that iPod nano owners should buy a third party cover to keep it safe while on the move.

I sent back an ipod nano because the screen is blurry and has obvious dead pixels but apple says its within THEIR accepatble standards. Obvioiusly their standards are below the consumers.

I got an ipod nano for my birthday in mid-September. No cases were available yet, so i carried it around in a book cover. The soft fabric did not prevent the nano from being scratched. When I called apple to ask them about it, they claimed that the nano was not prone to scratching and that it was my abuse of the product that caused it to scratch.

I am very disappointed in the product.
