Apple is looking for another supplier of flash memory

The deal between Apple and Samsung over the supply of flash memory chips is already very talked about. Apple is increasingly moving towards using flash memory in the ultra popular MP3 player Apple iPod. The trend picked up with the launch of the iPod nano and the reports in the market claims that Apple is already picking up almost 40% of all the memory Samsung produces in its factories.

Their was then news about a possible collaboration between Apple and Samsung over manufacturing flash memory together. However, that deal fell through. Now, the Macintosh maker is looking for a third supplier for these memory chips in the market to meet the demand in the market for their flash memory based iPod digital players.

The report was released by research firm InSpectrum that claimed that Apple is now looking towards South Korea-based Hynix Semiconductor. Apple is said to have asked the company to submit price quotes for low-density NAND flash memory. They are especially interested in the low-density 1GB and 512MB (used in the iPod shuffle). With the increasing demand in the market for flash memory, the prices have come down in the recent times and Apple is expected to pick up a good deal in the market.
