Samsung leads the flash memory market with their NAND chips
Samsung is the global leaders in the flash memory market with their NAND chips very high in demand. A lot of it can be attributed to Apple and their iPod music players, which are some of the biggest consumers of such memory chips. In addition, the rising sales of digital cameras and mobile phones have also contributed to high sales of such chips.
The South Korean technology giant has more than a 50 percent share of the NAND flash memory market as of the end of the third quarter. The report was released by the market researcher iSuppli Corp. Samsung is said to have sold flash memory worth more than US$1.5 billion in this quarter alone.
Samsung is followed by Japan’s Toshiba Corp. who is also a major supplier of such flash memory chips. They have a market share of around 22.8 percent. Both these companies are going to face big competition from growing competition provided by newer entrants in this market like Micron Technology Inc. and Hynix Semiconductor Inc.
With the holiday season approaching and sales of electronic devices to grow even further, all of these market players can hope for a better quarter yet again.
