Yahoo! Adds content from Gawker Media

Search engine giant Yahoo! is now adding content from social media blogs to their news sections. They have collaborated with Gawker Media who publishes more than a dozen blogs covering media gossip, politics, Hollywood, electronic gadgets, and more. The content from these sites would now also be covered by the popular Yahoo! New service.

This is just the latest step Yahoo! has taken to bring more non-traditional media on their content channels. From now on, Yahoo! News would be covering stories from five of Gawker’s Web sites, which cover topics ranging from politics to celebrity gossip. In the longer term, Yahoo! would be including more channels from the Gawker Media network.

Scott Moore, head of news and finance and Yahoo, said in a statement: “Gawker Media content expands Yahoo’s non-traditional media library with unique perspectives that provide intelligent, funny, and sometimes controversial views of the news events of the day.” Gawker is pretty popular on the net inviting around 4.5 million unique visitors a month.

Yahoo! also has other similar content sources that are not exactly mainstream news media like The Huffington Post and other user created blogs. The latest deal just expands the number of sources from where Yahoo! picks content for their News sections.
