Apple crosses 30 million shipments of Apple iPod
Macintosh maker Apple has announced that they have sold more than 30 million units of Apple iPods in the market ever since the launch of the first one in the year 2001. The first iPod had appeared in the market in November 2001 and since then we have seen various updates, upgrades, and new variants including the recently launched iPod nano and iPod Video.
Apple still has a month left to sell around 7 million units more to meet the target sales figure of 37 million units from market analysts Piper Jaffray. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster had told investors at the beginning of November: “We expect the iPod to continue to be a foundation for growth in other parts of Apple’s business, and we expect that by the end of calendar 2005 more than 37m iPods will have shipped, providing Apple with a greater scope of awareness for various products.â€
Apple should benefit from the start of the holiday season for a major boost in the sales and shipment of the Apple iPod music device, which has taken over the market in a huge way. Sony, the earlier dominating player in the music player segment are trying hard to catch up but are finding themselves overwhelmed by the popularity of the iPod.
Apple has also announced that they have managed to sell around 600 million songs from their iTunes digital stores throughout the world. Apple has found the combination of Apple iTunes and Apple iPod really working well for them.
