BenQ Mobile launches two mobile sets under Siemens brand name

BenQ recently took over the mobile business segment of the German technology giants Siemens. And the company has just announced the availability of two mobile phones from the Siemens brand name. The A31 is a candy-bar phone while the AF51 is a clamshell-based phone. The phones have a pleasing appearance and are targeted at the lower segment of the market for budget mobile phones.

Despite being positioned in the budget segment, both the phones are GPRS friendly and can handle MMS. Both of these models feature Life Manager Software, which includes an event reminder, calendar, calculator, address book, stopwatch, and alarm. However, Bluetooth support is missing from both the mobile phones.

The A31 comes featured with an ergonomic keyboard and 300 minutes of talk time. It uses Java MIDP 1.0 and storage is an anemic 1.5MB. Users can also use it to talk hands free. The AF51 on the other hand is more attractive with its 96×64 pixel external screen and the 130×130 pixel internal screen that offers 65k colors. It measures in at 79 x 41 x 20 mm.

In other news, market is full of rumors that BenQ is closing down its MP3 player business in the Taiwan and Korean market after looking at the popularity of Apple iPod in their domestic market.
