Tata Motors to launch Euro IV-compliant cars

For a change, Tata Motors is expected to become one of the first companies making budget segment cars to go Euro-IV compliant with their products. This certainly is good news for the people who care for the environment, as Tata Motors is the maker of the very popular Tata Indica and Indigo cars, which sells in big numbers in the domestic market of the company.

The company is expected to launch their cars with their new Euro IV petrol engines this month itself. However, the diesel version of their cars would still take sometime before they go Euro-IV compliant. This means that the company is unlikely to use the engines from Fiat Motors with which they recently signed on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

However, the company would be giving preferences to their export markets for these vehicles first. Euro IV norms are already in place in the European markets since January this year and they would only be put in place here in India by 2008. India just went Euro-III this year and well, blame the government; we are running three years behind the developed countries on this front.

Tata required these upgrades considering their exports are touching new heights and they required Euro-IV compliant engines for some of their targeted markets. It would be interesting to see how soon they can deliver these cars in their local domestic showrooms. Tata Motors exports its hatchback Indica and mid-sized Indigo cars to countries like Italy, Spain, South Africa, Nigeria, and Turkey.
