General Motors aiming for three new car launches in 2006
World’s largest maker of automobiles is planning to go aggressive in the Indian market next year. The company has already seen massive delays in the launch of several vehicles and they now plan to make amends. We have already seen reports of Chevrolet Aveo being discussed as one of the possible launch models from the company and now we have some more information from the news sources.
GM is now aiming to launch three new cars in the year 2006. in fact, these launches should come out in the first half of the next year itself. These three models are expected to be an entry-level notchback, a premium hatchback, and a sports version of Optra. The first two models are expected to be based on the Chevrolet Aveo base and the third one would be of course an evolved version of the Chevrolet Optra.
The entry-level notchback is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh and would be competing with the likes of Ford Fiesta and Honda City. While the premium hatchback will be priced at Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and should face the competition from Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Getz.
Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director, General Motors India said in a statement about their plans: “General Motors is quite bullish over car market growth in the country and will follow aggressive product launches over the next several years. By 2010, the company has plans to launch 10 new cars in the country.â€
However, we are more interested in knowing when the company is planning to launch the reincarnation of Daewoo Matiz, the Chevrolet Spark!
