Mumbai might get a new international Airport

The Indian government is considering establishing a new international airport in Mumbai. This comes in spite of the fact that they are also currently evaluating technical bids for the modernization of Delhi and Mumbai airports, which is expected to be done by the end of this month.

Civil Aviation Secretary Ajay Prasad who was speaking on the sidelines of the three-day Aerodrome India 2005 revealed the information. The exhibition and seminar commenced in Bangalore today and he also ruled out the possibility of a rebidding process for modernization of the Delhi and Mumbai airports.

Ajay Prasad said that the consultants appointed by the government have completed technical evaluation of the bids. And the inter-ministerial group chaired by him is looking at the evaluation done by the consultants to ensure that it has been done properly and all the evaluation criteria have been uniformly and equitably applied to all the bids.

The Indian government has received six bids for the modernization of Mumbai airport and five for Delhi.
