Time Warner clarifies again that AOL is not for sale

Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Time Warner was nearing closing of a possible deal with Microsoft over collaboration with their internet division America Online. This deal could result in an entity, which would be developing an online advertisement module designed to compete with Google’s own technology in the same market.

The latest in is that Time Warner has again stated that whatever the market might consider, they are not interested in selling AOL as a unit. Time Warner Chief Executive Dick Parsons said in a statement at a press briefing before a speech in Los Angeles: “We are not interested in selling AOL.”

They are also talking with Google over a possible deal and the news about Microsoft’s collaboration just might be a tactic to extract a better deal out of Google. AOL is interested in changing the way it makes revenues. Instead of paid subscriptions from their customers, AOL now is looking towards online advertisement based revenues to expand its user base in the market.

Market reported that the deal with Microsoft or Google might result in AOL being sold to these units. However, Time Warner has clarified that they are looking for a collaborative deal rather than selling the unit, which has suffered a big dent in its user base ever since telecom based broadband players, arrived in the market.
