Google beta launches a Google Transit Trip Planner

While the other search engine companies are continuing to work on their strategies to counter the existing popular services provided by Google, we have another new beta service from the market leaders. Google has just beta launched a new service which makes it easier for consumers to map public transit services.

Google Transit Trip Planner is currently available to Google users in Portland, Ore metro area and it provides directions for public transportation from a starting location to a destination. Users would be able to check out the road map of the route, the service provides transportation schedules and other information to help plot a systematic itinerary.

Google also shows the consumer the difference between costs of the trip with the cost of driving. It is pretty similar to how Google Local works and users can find businesses and other locations in a city, and get driving directions. And Google places locations and directions on the map itself along with a possible aerial view of the region.

The service is currently in beta stage and part of the Google Labs where all their new services are tested out by their users. Google might integrate this service into the Google Local search engine once the testing is over and they make it a more refined product. They need to cover a lot of more regions to make it more useful to Google users based in USA.
