Tata Motors shows a disappointing performance

The month of December is here and less that, 4 months are left in the current financial year. Indian auto market has seen a boom in the recent times but the current sales figures show that most automakers in India would be left with a single digit increase in their performance for the year. Amongst the top three automakers in the Indian market, Tata Motors seems to be the worst performer if the sales numbers are to be believed.

Tata Motors has shown the worst performance of the top three in the first nine months of 2005-06 in the compact car segment. Tata Indica volumes slipped 1.8% to 68,440 units in this period. Tata Indigo showed an even bigger slide with 5% to 24,439 units. Market leaders Maruti on the other hand sparkled with impressive growth figures of 25%.

South Korean auto giant Hyundai saw a growth of 17.5%. Market experts believe that the major reason behind the bad performance of Tata Motors was low incentives offered to the end consumers. And auto maniacs would agree to the fact that Tata cars continues to face problems with quality and overall service offered by the dealers of the company.

In terms of individual brands, Alto, WagonR, and Santro are the only models to have seen increase in sales figures compared to last year. Maruti seems to have benefited a lot from the Suzuki Swift model, which has resulted in their stellar performance.

    Sir,

I am writing this mail in connection to my Tata Indica V2 DLS, that I purchased in November 2005 from RD Motors

Pvt Ltd., Kolkata. On 25.01.05 morning(around 9 AM) I noticed a small crack in the upper part of the AC’s

front Panel in the Dash Board. That time I was driving. In the next 4 hours I found that the crack is gradually

increasing. Then I talked to the RD Motors Service Centre personnel, he advised me to contact them on working

days, as it was Sunday. I contacted them on 31.01.05 at their service centre at Rajarhat, Kolkata-136.

Initially they told me that someone has tried to open the front panel focibly. But I told them that no one has

access to this car except me and also to find out any spot of tools that can prove their statement, but they

failed to show any spot. Then they opened the panel with Screw Driver (It was so tightly fitted that one spot

of screw driver appeared, which proves that if anyony tried to open it previously then also such spot should

appear). After opening they found that interal fittings and accessories are all cracked and broken. Now they

are claiming that it is possible only through impact on that panel(either someone has fallen on it while

braking or during moving the vehicle had some jerking on a poor road condition). But I am sure that there was

    no impact because:
    i) No one handled the car except me
ii) It is always parked in my garrage which is a protected place
iii) The panel is located just in front of the Gear, so it is not possible that any one falls on this panel

while stopping the vihicle instantaneously by braking.
iv) I have seen the crack appearing with time on 25.02.05
    v) Why there is no sign of impact on the DashBoard or on the panel itself?

So, they are making us responsible for such material fault and claiming that to replace the whole panel I have

to purchase it against a cost of around Rs 5000/- as the plastic materials are not covered under any warranty

    or insurance.

I suspect that either there was a manufacturing defect with those plastic panels at the time of fitting and the

defect has exposed by time or there was any thermal shock whick has cracked the material. I am also astonished

to see the poor quality of the interior products used by a company like TATA MOTORS.

Please advise, how should I get proper justice being a valued customer. Also advise me whether I can go for any

material testing lab or Forensic test to prove my words. How can I put this case legally either through

Consumer Court or by any other means?

    Thanking You,

    Yours Faithfully,
