Volvo doing good business in India
Volvo has a minor presence in the Indian automotive market and they sell higher segment buses and trucks India. The company is doing good business and expects to close the year with sales of over 400 buses in India. Volvo’s bus division Vice-President, Akash Passey also reported that the company recently bagged its first order for intra-city buses from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for 25 buses.
These buses would make an appearance in the city early next year and costs close to Rs 62 lakh each. Passey also added that the company is seeing growth of close to around 25 per cent over last calendar year. They aim to achieve a similar growth rate next year as well and are looking towards expanding their services to other parts of the country.
The new buses from the company (Volvo 8700) would be built at the same assembly line from where Volvo trucks are built. Their bodies are however built at the Jaico Automobile Engineering Company near Bangalore. There are more city authorities from around India who have enquired about such buses for their local transport and Volvo is currently engaged in talks with them.
Impressively, these buses from the company meet the Euro 3 standards and are the latest model among Volvo’s buses.
