Dell recalling large number of Laptop Batteries

World’s largest PC manufacturer Dell is facing hard time in the market. The sales might be impressive but the profit margins are dropping due to big discounts they have to offer to customers to get them to order Dell PCs. Now, the company has another major issue as they have to recall 22,000 notebook computer batteries sold in the U.S. and 13,000 sold abroad.

A Dell spokesperson said in a statement: “Working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, we have issued a voluntary recall for the defective notebook batteries. We identified that the batteries could overheat and potentially cause a short-circuit,” Kehoe said. “This was a manufacturing defect.” The company has plans to replace the defective batteries.

Dell has advised the customers to look for a white sticker on the batteries to check for the identification numbers. And they are advised to contact the company to determine if their battery is part of the recall. The company has said in an advisory related to this recall that the batteries were sold with several models of Latitudes, Inspirons, and Precision mobile workstations between October 5, 2004 and October 13, 2005.

The company also listed the particular models of their machines, which might be affected by this problem. These are Latitude D410, D505, D510, D600, D610, D800, D810 notebooks; the Inspiron 510M, 600M, 6000, 8600, 9200, 9300, XPS Gen 2 notebooks; and the Precision M20 and M70 mobile workstations.
