Lenovo appoints William Amelio as their CEO
China based PC manufacturer Lenovo made news when they acquired the PC division of the US tech giants IBM. Now, they are the world’s third largest maker of personal computers and are expanding fast in the Indian and other markets. The latest news in is that they have just announced the appointment of William Amelio as their new Chief Executive Officer.
Amelio is the former head of Dell Inc.’s Asian business and a veteran IBM PC executive. He would be replacing the current CEO Stephen Ward who would continue to work as a consultant with the company. Amelio take over his new responsibilities as the new CEO of Lenovo Group immediately.
Lenovo Chairman Yang Yuanqing said in a statement on this appointment: “Our board and Steve Ward made the decision together that this is the right time for the transition. Right now we are entering a new phase to pursue profitable growth more aggressively.” These two individuals have worked together before at IBM.
