International Space Station crew gets their Christmas package

An unmanned Russian spaceship has finally docked with the International Space Station, which was launched to send supplies and Christmas gift items to the present crew of the space station. The supplies include food, water, fuel and other stuff sent from the families of the two orbiting astronauts residing in the ISS.

This unmanned cargo spacecraft was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. It arrived at its destination a bit before its expected time and docked with the research outpost at 2:46 p.m. EST. this information was released to the media by the American space organization NASA.

The two astronauts currently residing on the ISS are Russian cosmonaut Valery Tokarev and U.S. astronaut William McArthur. McArthur said on this joyful event to greet their supplies: “Santa’s sleigh has arrived. Valery and I have really been very good boys this year so we’re certain there are going to be lots of goodies on board for us.”

Russia is helping USA with the routine cargo supplies to the International Space Station after the entire fleet of Space Shuttle was grounded after the problems related to its safety resurfaced during the Discovery’s mission to space. The next mission to space for the Space Shuttle is currently scheduled for May next year and NASA is working hard on solving the issues with the craft.
