Intel might be designing motherboards for Apple
The latest rumors in the market are amusing indeed. Early this year, Apple Computers shocked the IT industry by announcing that they were switching from the IBM’s PowerPC platform to Intel architecture and the first Macs powered by Intel would arrive in 2006. Now, the latest speculation in the market is that Apple has assigned Intel to develop motherboards for their Macintosh computers.
Usually, Apple develops the motherboards of their computers in-house. This piece of information was released by the popular Apple Insider magazine, which tends to be the first one to come out with inside information from the company. Market speculation is also betting on the fact that Apple would be showcasing first of these products at the upcoming MacWorld exhibition next month. Apple as usual is quiet about these rumors and speculations.
Apple Insider is claiming that the company decided to outsource the manufacturing of the motherboards to Intel to fasten the process of development of proper hardware for the Intel-based iMacs, iBooks, and Mac minis. Market experts believe that this would also save a lot for Apple leading to perhaps more economical products for the end consumers.
It would be interesting to see how Apple goes ahead with their plans to start their shift to the Intel processor platform with their various product ranges, as there is a fear in the market that this move would result in the products losing their unique character, which is associated with the brand name Apple.

Intel would still have to design the motherboards to Apple’s specs. These usually are unique to Apple. Thus, no parallel printer port or PS2 mouse port, etc. The products from Apple would also be cleaner in design rather than cluttered like the PC counterparts. The difference would still be very noticeable.

Yes. People seem to be acting as if Intel is in charge and Apple will just accept their design and that it will be the same as all other computers.
Duh! Do they think Apple had/has no input on the design? It’s more likely that Apple set the parameters for what the design needed to do and how and that Intel, knowing the hardware, is making it work to Apple’s needs.
It is likely to be different from those in PC’s and probably better!
