BSNL vs. Bharti TouchTel

BSNL practically runs the entire country’s telephone network so to hope that they can compete on technology and services with private operators (who can choose their area of operations on the basis of profitability and convenience) is not exactly fair. But still they disappoint me. I just got to see more examples of such in competency.

BSNL guys decided that they will get the telephone network underground in my area. So what do I get to see? The road sides were dug up which were filled later only when people in the colony complained after waiting for days. And today when they came to connect my house to their hub on the road side, they dug up 1 foot deep holes through the front lawn messing it up completely. They also break through the cemented verandah to make space for the wire. Now what is my problem with that? Well they are certainly not going to repair the damage to the cemented flooring. The lawn is easy to fix as they just have to drop in the mud back though grass will take its own time to grow up.

Comparing that to Bharti TouchTel connection I had back in Faridabad. Well, they took 3 days from the date I filled the form to get me my phone (BSNL took more than a week for a phone that was well reserved in advanced, considering it is a government official’s phone!). They did not dig up anything. All they did was very neatly got the wiring from their hub to my room without letting it loose or hanging anywhere in between using nails, plastic covering (for the folding joints) and clippings. And all this was done in 30 minutes flat. BSNL on the other hand installed the box last week, today they are digging and I am pretty sure they will take another week to get the internal wiring done so that the phone can be shifted to the underground network from the hanging wires one.

My only other problem with this arrangement is that… Now that the wiring is underground, how long will they take now to fix any problems if they occur! I know the record they have with the wires that are outside visible by eye!

EDIT: Yeah, they went away without telling me and they left the whole frontyard in a mess.

I applied for a Touchtel internet connection 10 days back, on the assurance of the connection to be installed/commissiones in 24 hours. IO days later, after having paid an advance of Rs.500.00, I am left to follow up with robots answering calls at a call centre. No senior management person cares to even talk.
This is my second bad experience. I advise and urge all never to touch Touchtel.

The BSNL man is humble, speaks Hindi. The TOUCHTEL man is well dressed, insists on speaking bad English, makes tall promises and does not deliver performance, as assured.

He refuses to give the contact number of any senior person.

Wish some regulatory authority penalises them for the torture caused by poor service and worse, total unresponsiveness.

Public sector monopoly is still a better option.

Once the advance is paid, one becomes a captive slave of these cheats and scoundrels.

Mr.Sunil Mittal – I know this will never reach you, but if you have any sense of shame, please at least tender an apology.

well, i must agree touchtel situation would be very near to what i have with Sify Broadband but really, are BSNL guys even accessible? I tried to get a BSNL prepaid card, could not find any real solutions. Tried for AirTel. And I was online in 15 minutes flat.

I was left with very bad taste and bitter experience with sify broadband and I was wondering whether to switch for bsnl/touchtel. I think I will go for bsnl.
Problems with sify broadband is that it is given to cable TV operators who use substandard wires and hubs which frequently fails practically every alternate day. Complaints to sify ends with apologies and no action on the ground.

Have had such horrendous customer service expereince with Airtel Mobile services that i would think 100 times before going ahead with the landline connection i was planning to get. On a post paid connection with all dues paid, the service got barred and sim got blocked 6 times over a period of two months, with repeated assurances everytime that it wont happen again.

Really I have never seen as LETHARGIC and IRRESPONSIBLE service provider as AIRTEL.This is first time I am DEALING with THEM and relly going with hell lot of tensions. What I can make out about them is:
    1. They are bunch of jokers sitting there, having no sense of responsibility.
    2. They do not know what promise and what to say.
    3. They are only interested in increasing count.
    4. There is no co-ordination between them, they are as unorganised as they can be

I HOPE I AM VERY RIGHT MR. MITTAL

    Dear Airtel Karnataka,

I believe that your organizational philosophy of the customer is â??Kasth-se-marâ??. This is evident through the various interactions that I have been having with Airtel and let me tell you that your services are PATHETIC. I write a mail to you on 26/7/2005 to which you answer on 2/8/2005, that too without any concrete answers.

The same is the case with your land-line phones. I keep on complaining about services on deaf ears. For the last 2 months I have been complaining about the following, to Mr. Divakar, who I believe is a relationship officer and to your helpline without any solutions whatsoever. What if I also forget to make payments on time ??

    1. Inter telephone call transferring not happening properly â?? line gets disconnected most of the time.
    2. Voice of the caller often is so weak that we cant hear anything
    3. Speakerphone does not work at all

Youâ??ll lost out on my corporate connections to Hutch due to the same apathy shown by you â?? I went on complaining since December 2004 and no one listened till end of May 2005 !!!!!

Good show Mr. Mittal !!! Please carry with your good work of cheating your customers !!!! or have you lost control of your organization by outsourcing ???

    Regards,

    Hi,
I have such a bad experience with AirTel BroadBand connection is that I will suggest that never avail the services of any private operator such as AirTel.BSNL/MTNL are still lions of india. They are responsible and fair one. They dont charge hidden costs which private companies do so freqeuently.Never take any broadband connection of AirTel.You cannot meet the persons who give you connection whom you
can ask about the rental plans and any other clarifications.
So finally BSNL is the best
    Thanks

    Shame for AIRTEL
I have (unfortunately) switched from Prepaid to postpaid after repeated requests from Airtel. My connection was activated on 24th Sept. It is highly disgraceful of Airtel not to have activated my STD (to landline nos). I was told that it would take 24 hrs from your executives at 121. When it did not activate I again called 121. Then I was told 48 hrs. Again nothing happened . Then I was told 5 days and it has been going on like this. I am terribly upset about the service when the deposit of Rs 599 has been paid on 23rd itself.
Will Airtel have the courtesy to look into the matter as to why you people have been only giving false information from your customer service at 121.
Now when I demand that I speak to some responsible person at 121 the persons there are so rude and tell me that they will not transfer and the language that is used is ” do whatever u want to do”
This type of Service is highly disgraceful from Airtel.

Will AIRTEL look into the matter or do I have to seek redresal to my grievance from the appropriate authorities.

My no is 9892757580 and I am placed at Mumbai.

Touchtel Broadband is pathetic. I had been using BSNL DataOne 512 Kbps line – which used to regularly give me 60 Kbytes/s downloads. Only, they had a 4GB cap – which is why I switched to Touchtel. The connection was 256 Kbps, which let me download at 30 kbytes/s – which was fantastic (initially). Within a week, the connection became worse than a dialup. Their own website always reports download speed of pathetic 40 – 100 kbps – where as they have promised it will never dip below 128 kbps. If you try their call center, they will tell that its no big deal, its only a few kbps below their worst case estimate (in short, its worse than the worse case estimate!). BSNL definitely doesn’t have this ***CHALTA HAI*** attitude -> they point you to the nearest senior person you can talk to.

I was an AIRTEL POSTPAID customer. I would never recommend airtel to anyone even if it were the last mobile service provider left in this country. Terrible customer care, high call rates, false billing, switching you to new schemes without even notifying you. They even tortured me when i cancelled my postpaid connection! I was to get a refund of my deposit for an amount of Rs. 3500. It took from june to october before they finally mailed me a cheque, that too for the wrong name. In between i had to make about 26 calls to airtel customer care and once even had my refund application rejected because the signature i made 6 years ago did not match with the signature made on the form. Bunch of bullshitting jokers. Get something like hutch, which is just as reliable as it’s brand ambassador (for those of you who don’t know it’s rahul dravid). Cheaper and better service, they do what they say and say what they do. Their coverage is also increasing with every passing day.

Airtel/Touchtel both PSTN and Mobile services customer care is the worst customer care in this world. Executives are not atall trained how to handle customer. Forget about English Hindi, the guys doesn’t have even professional ethics. They are good in pursuing you before filing the form for connection and after that no body turns back.

Very sad to see a poor service from a company which is in top ten in Inda. As I have told customer executive to disable the proms(I have asked for 10 times) still they are sending nonsense promos to me.It is shame on the part of maharashtra airtel.Previously I am in tamil nadu there is no problem in Airtel service. In maharashtra u will get a nonsense riging call from airtel even witout asking a prior permission to the customer.

    Dear Mr Mittal

I know i you are avery busy man ,so i will try to make this as short as possible.

Please refer this email below. I am from Chennai. I have a mobile in my name used by my wife (98404 92590).We wanted to shift from post paid to pre paid for the above mentioned phone no .When we contacted Airtel Customer Service Centre ,they sent somebody from Univercell in Alwarpet with a new sim card on Jan 13th and also we have paid the oustanding amount for the last month bill. Now from that date till now ,the pre paid sim card is not activated. We have spoken to Amrita,Dharani, malar etc from customer service who are only interested in giving excuses.I don’t think Airtel takes 20 days to activate one connection.Infact when we have spoken to the supervisor named Shanmugaim of Univercell regarding this and dislcosed to him that we were extremely dissapointed with the service ,he banged down the phone on my wife.I think your customer service people are not very passionate about their work and also they don’t have the decency to speak to a woman. I am extremely fond of the airtel signal and don’t want to surrender the conenction.

Today also i spoke to Airtel customer service and they are saying we have to wait for the concerned person from univercell to activate, this is ridiculous.I would request you to help us to sort out this issue asap.

Hoping to hear a positive repsonse from you.

    Kind Attn.: Mr. Sunil Mittal,

I was Airtel customer of GSM services. by mistake i deposited two times two cheques for one bill. i requested to airtel 121 for refunding my exceeding amount. first they told me that it is not refundable. they also told me that the amount is refundable only if the customer get disonnected the services. i was realy surprised to listen this. as i think why Airtel has such type of bloody systems which is totaly against the Airtel . means airtel will refund the money after loosing one good customer whose usage is approx. 2500 per month. but finally i got disconnected the services with Airtel.
although i am still waiting for my refund .
I would suggest to every reader of this message that please please do not become a customer of Airtel. it is good to live without mobile but it is very poor to have a mobile service from Airtel.

    with regards.

    dear sir
iam a subscriber of airtel and iam doing mba right here in pune and also my friends using airtel . but we are totally dis-satified with ur service because the customer care executives are not coopreating with us (+919890292473) i recieved a manual call on 11th of december for miss call alert and hello tune change but i refused them to activate miss call alert and also refused to replace my old hellotune but after refuse all these they change my hello tune and deducted rs.15/= from my account and still iam not getting mmy 15/= rupees back. and they are saying that yes u will get that 15/= rupees back within 48 hours but today it crossed 2 months but i couldnot get that money back. this issue is not still clear again on dt. 3/2/06 at 11.30p.m. i was calling to philipines and that number was out of range . but when i dis-connected by listen out of range my balance deducted with rupees 15.24/= but when i called to customercare they said this is not our problem . i am very much sure that that is the problem of air tel .and i am now very much rigid on airtel and if i will not get my money back i will disconnect my connection and also all my friends also facing this type of problem regularly and they already planned to take bpl and also we are 200 students doing mba and staying at one hostel out of that 190 using airtel and for shake i am telling if i will not get my money back i will tell all of them to take bpl and also if any personf ask me about airtel i will tell him airtel is a big cheater only intended for shortterm profit and creates lots of problem to their customers and also final thing is that if we are calling to customer for these problem they are blocked our number for which we cannot able to get connected to customer .

so finally i want a positive response from you other wise myself and my friends will make a list of all illegal money deduction bye airtel from us and then give a publicity on paper and also we will do a consumer court for it if you are giving positive response then thank you , other wise good bye .

This is for Mr. Sunil Mittal:

    Ref.: Parent subscription : 9845549696; Add-on subscription : 9880880443

Mr. Mittal, I have been a postpaid mobile subscriber of Airtel since about two years now. I have been given an add-on SIM card in August / September, 2005.

I had bought my first (parent) subscription from a credit card, thus deposit was waived. My monthly bills were being paid through auto debit from that credit card (I had given a Standing Instruction (SI) for it). I had given SI for auto debit from the same credit card towards my monthly bill of the add-on SIM card, too. Monthlly payments were smooth till some time ago.

My credi card was upgraded to a Gold Card, which number was intimated in writing by me to Airtel – separately for two numbers, which was confirmed by Airtel to have been updated in the system there (Airtel). But, I started to receive calls / emails / SMSs that auto-debit was declined. I checked with the bank providing the credit card, who said that the bill be re-presented for payment, as there was no problem with the bank / account. I cross-checked with Airtel and found out the credit card number available in the system is correct, i.e., the new number.

Firstly, I had problems with the Airtel outlet at Banashankari 3rd Stage, 100 Ft. Ring Road, Bangalore, where I handed over the SI. But it never reached Airtel. I had to give it the second time.

I cancelled the SI following problems of payment getting declined. I was asked to pay a deposit for the two connections, the customer support executive who called said I could make it in one cheque. I did it in one cheque mentioning the numbers of the two connections overleaf. The lady at the outlet mentioned above declined to accept it saying I had to make two cheques – separately for the two numbers. As I had already written the cheque I returned to write to Airtel. Airtel replied telling that I could, indeed, make my deposit towards the two numbers by one cheque!!! The executive who called asked me to contact a specific person in the same outlet, who I was told that was from Airtel. I again went there and the cheque was accepted – though by another person, as the one referred by Airtel was not available when I visited.

I had, long ago – soon after I received the add-on SIM card, written to Airtel to make a sinle bill for the two connections. I received a confirmation by a customer service executive that it has been done now!! After a good four-five months.

I received an SMS on my parent card telling that a particular amount was outstanding, which I later found to be of the add-on SIM card. Wouldn’t it have been better to mention the relevant number in the SMS? I received a mail telling that the same amount is pending and I need to make the payment fast, but the SMS tells the due date is 27-02-2006. I check my bills over internet (www.airtelworld.com), and the same is confirmed.

On 03rd February, 2006, I had paid an amount through Netbanking towards the bill for my parent card, whose due date was 11th February. The receipt was not confirmed by Airtel. When I wrote to enquire, I received a mail yesterday saying that the payment was received on 06th February, but there was delay in posting the same to my account. That was atrocious and ridiculous. Isn’t it? And over that there was a mention that I need to pay an amount towards the bill of my add-on SIM card as immediately as it was pending. The SMS reached my parent card!

I am being harrassed by Airtel for flimsy reasons when I have not committed any mistake, when there is no fault of mine. My name is spelt wrong (as separate names), despite my request a number of times, since a long age, the same is not corrected, i.e., the name in the last bill I received appears wrongly.

I feel the people at Airtel Bangalore are behind me to harrass. I wonder what are they upto. I am sure that they were trained by Airtel to work there, and efficiently at that. But I wonder why Airtel is complacent about its operations!

Yesterday I spoke to one customer support executive to sort out the issue of pending bills, etc. He says I don’t have an add-on SIM card at all!! That was a big joke. Wasn’t that? He said the two cards are not related to one another – that is they are mutually exclusive and not parent- and add-on cards!

Airtel is a brand that I liked for its youthfulness and trendy concept. But I am getting frustrated with it. I’m seriously thinking of changing loyalty, whereas I was suggesting my friends and folks in the family to go for Airtel. There are a few good service providers outside Airtel, I know. Anyway, Airtel doesn’t give a damn if one like me quits from its network.

Should Airtel continue like this, doom is not far. And it would be sad day for Indian telecom industry. BSNL would laugh at you.

I wish you tighten your belts. Become more professional in your work approach. Lest you’ll cease to exist. Hope necessary action will be taken.

Mr Mittal. I have beared a hug loss in lakhs as my Cell was not done roaming on 25th and 26th Feb’06 as i went to cal from Mumbai after repeatedly saying for 3 times.I was told that it will be done in 3hrs but it wasn’t.Then i called up from Calcutta twice but still national roaming was not activated for both the days.
When I asked for compensation I was told that they will waive off my Rental or SMS charges. I think the executives dont understand the seriousness of the matter.
I have mailed them but I have not got any reply from them as yet.
Another incident: My number was disclosed to ICICI Prudential Life insurance co and they call me again and again for some business plan. They said airtel gave them the my number.I have complained for this also not one from your company has replied to it.
    Kindly look into the matter.
My cell no 9867230260. and I am a mumbai subscriber.

We already have Airtel Nos. 9810102222, 9810202222, 9810302222 & 9810402222, amongst others. In December 2005, Airtel themselves called up and offered to issue all these numbers in 99 series i.e. 9910102222, 9910202222, 9910302222 & 9910402222 and made payment of the demanded sum of Rs.3,600/- by cheque. Their representative Mr. Arun Kumar from Bharti Tele-ventures Ltd. got four forms filled up and delivered four SIM cards. After hectic follow up and persistent persuasion, only 9910102222 & 9910202222 were activated.

9910302222 (SIM No. 8991100509025783946) & 9910402222 (SIM No. 8991100509025783862) have not been activated despite regular calls and frantic chase. This is the service Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal renders to its old customers. We have paid over Rs.8,00,000/- to M/s. Bharti Cellular Limited in bills for all mobiles of Airtel.

Can anyone suggest as to how we can get these phones activated.

it is true that Airtel services are worst especially customer care.
they dont know what to say to the customers and how to handle the situations.
i think the executives ( Airtel tell us that they are executives) are immature childs..

    Dear Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal,

I would like to share my experience with 2 of your exucutives at your office at Brigade Road, Opp to Pizza Corner. This incident happened at around 1:30 pm on 10th of October 2006.

I asked the first exectuve: Are there any handset offers with Prepaid.

First Exectuives Instant Reply to me: I am not aware of any such scheme. Is there any such sheme.

I replied: Yes, there is a scheme

First Executives asks the Second Executive: Are there any handset schemes in prepaid.

Second Executive Replies:- There are schemes but no handsets in stock.

I asked the first executive:- Can you give me details.

Second Executive Replies:- Why dont you speak to the 2nd person (who already is attending 2 customers)

I HAD ENOUGH OF ENOUGHT OF IT. YOUR EXECUTIVES WERE JUST GIVING ANSWERS TO OBJECTIVE TYPE QUESTIONS AND WERE LEAST INTEREST IN SELLING THE PRODUCT. I CAM WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF BUYING A CONNECTIONS BUT HAD TO LEAVE WITH A WRY SMILE.

    Dear Mr. Mittal,

I had written email to your Nodal officer and appellate.tn on 5th of March regarding my broad band connection which is not thru yet. I have enrolled for a broad band line with Airtel in the month of January 2007, CUSTOMER ENROLLMENT FORM NUMBER : – 582786 DTD 21/1/2007. Till now the connection has not been laid down . This connection has been taken for an official purpose as required by my Directors for me to enable working from home. I have been contacting your Airtel person Mr. Murugan Mobile No : 9840300584 & S. Gomathi Nayagam Mobile No 9940101577 for knowing the status of my connection but they are not even picking up their mobile. Finally your highet authorities like Nodal Officers but still no response.

I wanted to take conneciton with you because you have good schemes and wonderful connectivity , not only that my Company is also using your lease lines.

Still no action taken . I know you dont have time to hear or pay attention to such petty things . But service and action taken for complaints are very very poor. This is the third time I am facing such a poor response from your airtel personnels.

    regards
    Rajeswari

We have Bsnl Broad Band at home and tataIndicom at office. We can get to see the difference between the two easily.

At home , Bsnl is easier to handle. Yes, They come when we call , I mean the Bsnl people, I have had good experiance. But at the office , when ever we call them the automatic robot answers bore us. They seem to be very polite always asking why we are calling. That’s allAt the office, that too a freight forwarding company, Internet is a must. The tata indicom people tell us that it’ll take about 10 hours atleast to redress a complaint of ‘no link lamp’ What happens, one full day is lost and for many it is demurrage and other complaints due to non working printer and computer. Oh God!!

That’s enough . we areplanning to shift to BSNL as early as possible.

Airtel cheats its customers big time. One of their Managers came to me took a cheque and the another manager took Cash and presented the cheque at the same time, Airtel, and now Mittal i assume has started robbery to increase their turnover. NEVER TAKE AN AIRTEL CONNECTION, GO FOR IDEA, BSNL NEVER AIRTEL

In reference to the above mentioned mobile number, please note that I am very much depressed with the service level provided by the Airtel Customer Care. I purchased the above sim on 06-August-2007 from their outlet to present my Father [Mr. B S Rana]. However, the SIM given was faulty & was replaced. The second SIM was also the faulty and was not exchanged. When I reached them they asked me to pay Rs. 225 for new SIM as the SIM does not comes with the Guarantee as per Airtel Policy. Agreed, but why should the customer has to pay again when the things purchased is faulty. In case the SIM had been used even for once then the customer may not have the right to claim. When I reached their outlet in Dwarka Sec-4 I was refused by them to change/exchange it. The concerned person there Mr. Ghanshyam & Mr. Bhuvan misled me and refused straightly. I was not even being given honored even the basic respect the customer could expect. They harassed me in front of other customers and fellow colleagues. I had left with no other choice but to call the customer care at 121 and they did the same thing as I received at their outlet. Since 07-August-2007 I have wrote 10 emails, contacted their 121 customer service – 20 times and also send SMS more than 25 times. However, I got no resolution and did not even got any reply in revert email. Inspite of being helping me out they re-directed me to each others. Now it is already more than 15 days passed I am still helpless and have nothing done till date. I am continuously been harrassed and wasted my precious time and money during the course. Please help me what should I do? Where should I go? I am very much depressed as they do not even have courtesy to reply back. Yesterday itself I have been told by their Customer Care Floor Supervisor Mr. Kumar [he didn't told me his other name on repeatedly being asked for it] that the Airtel Customer Care 121 & 121@airtelindia.com do not reply to such emails?

Any body will address to these complaints??
Why cant you try another route?
Government of India has an online Grievance forum at http://darpg-grievance.nic.in/

Can you imagine this is happening in INDIA?

The govt. wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc.

So use this grievance forum and educate others who don’t know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the ‘ System ‘ in India.

Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings.
