General Motors claims Chevrolet brand outsold Ford in 2005
General Motors has claimed that their popular Chevrolet brand outsold their rival Ford branded cars in the year 2005. As per the statement from the world’s largest manufacturer of automobiles, Chevrolet was the best selling brand in United States in 2005 and they managed to outsell Ford for the first time in the last 19 years. However, this is not good enough considering both Ford and GM are running their operations in huge losses and are on their way to cut jobs and close down manufacturing plants.
In fact, it is the Japanese manufacturers who are gaining market share in the US automobile segment. Companies like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are doing well and increasing their market share rapidly. All of these automakers along with South Korea’s Hyundai reported improvement in sales in the US market by an impressive 9% or more. Toyota Camry has been reported to be the best selling model in this market for the fourth consecutive year by the company.
The situation has worsened so much for the local manufacturers that the combined market share for these players has touched a low of 56.9 percent from 61.7 percent in just three years time. Toyota seems to be gaining a lot of sales from their hybrid range of vehicles. The consumer interest in hybrid vehicles has been so impressive that all the top three US based automakers have announced massive plans to get into improving the technology and launch hybrid vehicles in the coming years.
