Amazon.com best shopping site as per Citigroup research
Citigroup has said that as per their surveys, Amazon.com tops the rating for the best online shopping website. The company took into consideration factors like simplicity of checkout, price, and product assortment. Citigroup surveyed around 44 retail Web sites that included other biggies like eBay and specialized and targeted shopping portals like Hot Topic.
They checked out various parameters on these ecommerce stores, which are relevant to average online shopper. Some of the other stores which shined in this survey other than Amazon.com were American Eagle Outfitters , Gap Inc.’s Banana Republic and Talbots Inc. eBay failed to impress the researchers but they did noticed the vast product selection available for sale and bids on eBay.
Talbots was one store that really impressed Citigroup. The company cited some of their impressive features like the free gift-wrapping and free upgraded shipping for last minute purchases. And some of the stores, which really disappointed with user experience were Costco Wholesale Corp, CompUSA, Hot Topic, and Kohl’s Corp. perhaps, this would be enough indications for these stores to see where they are getting it totally wrong.
The shopping season last year impressed the online market analysts with improved user interest in online purchasing as record orders were placed on some of the most popular web sites in America. Web stores on Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp. showed impressive growth during the last month of 2005 indicating that the market is destined to grow even bigger in the coming times.
