Boeing announces a record number of orders in 2005

United States based aircraft manufacturer Boeing has announced that they have received a record number of orders in the year 2005. The company claimed in a released statement that they have logged 1,002 commercial airplane orders in 2005. This number is a record for total orders in one year for the company, as they impressed the markets with their 737, 777 and 787 model jets.

This new record improves upon their earlier best of 877 planes ordered in 1988. This number includes orders from McDonnell Douglas, which was later acquired by the company in 1997. More importantly, 2005 was a much better year compared to 2004 when Boeing logged in just 272 orders for commercial planes.

The latest range of orders includes another record number of orders (569) for their 737 planes. This number is an improvement over the previous high of 438 737 planes ordered way back in 1996. The bigger Boeing 777 received orders of around 154 units, which betters the order for 116 planes in 2006. Boeing also got 235 orders for their 787 plane, which again betters the previous record for 56 units in 2004.

Boeing also said in the statement that the orders came from as many as 72 different clients. Market analysts also predict that the number of orders for Boeing has also managed to defeat their rivals Airbus in the aircraft manufacturing market.
