Microsoft collaborates with BSkyB on video-on-demand service for PCs
Google is not alone who is collaborating with the media companies with their plans to become a major video distributor on the internet. Microsoft has also announced collaboration with the James Murdoch’s satellite provider British Sky Broadcasting Group. The deal would see them launching a video-on-demand service for PCs in the country.
The launch is due to take place something next week and this would become the latest broadband related venture from James Murdoch. They plan to enable their 8 million British subscribers get media content on demand on their personal computers. This also means that Microsoft is now entering a field where Google has shown massive interests in with their collaboration with CBS.
As soon as the service launches, BSkyB consumers owning computers loaded with the Microsoft Media Center operating system would be able to access the feature through the Sky By Broadband service. However, this service will not be free and consumers would have to pay a small fee to access this new facility. Microsoft of course is also working on a similar deal with BSkyB’s American sister, DirecTV.
