Honda takes the honors at the Detroit Auto Show
Toyota might be the most impressively performing automobile company in the American auto market. However, it is their domestic rivals Honda who took the honors at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show. The company won some of the most important awards at the Detroit auto show on Sunday. The judges were awed by their products like all new Civic and first-ever pickup, the Ridgeline as they won the awards for the car and truck of the year.
This means that the local auto giants like GM and Ford had another disappointing outcome at their local auto show. Both the companies are already struggling to fight the domination of the Japanese automakers and are due to announce mega job cuts and closure of manufacturing plants. GM and Ford are also losing their market share to players like Toyota, Honda, and Nissan and have pledged to stage a fight back this year.
Some of the local models in the hunt for these awards were the Ford Fusion and the Pontiac Solstice models. However, it was a Honda, which defeated all the other models in the hunt for the North American Car of the Year award. Honda also recently took the honors for both their new models from the popular auto magazine Motor Trend and this gives them an impressive marketing boost to attract more buyers to their new cars launched in the American market.
John Mandel, senior vice president at American Honda said in a statement about this dual achievement: “I don’t know how you can top this. We certainly hoped for one, didn’t expect two (awards). Words can’t express the excitement. It’s the first time it’s ever been done, I believe.”
