BMW AG reports 10% improvement in sales for 2005
Germany based luxury automobile maker BMW AG has revealed their sales figures for the year 2005. And the company has performed well. The company reported on Monday that they managed to sell around 1,328,000 vehicles in 2005. This is an improvement of around 9.9 percent from the previous year when they sold around 1,208,700 units. BMW credited this improvement to the growing demand for their popular sedan models in the market.
More impressively, the group’s primary brand BMW alone recorded an impressive growth rate of 10.1 percent. They gained massively from the growing popularity for their revamped version of the BMW 3-series model and the flagship 7-series. Some other popular models for the group were the classic Mini variants. Mini Cooper itself saw an improved sales performance by around 8.7 percent to 200,400 units.
This is also the first time that BMW sold more than two lakh units of Mini models in a calendar year. BMW also recorded a minor improvement in the sales of their super luxury brand model Rolls-Royce which sold 796 units compared to 792 the year before. The group’s Chief Executive Helmut Panke said in a statement during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit: “We expect the BMW Group to remain on the course of growth also in 2006. Therefore, we aim at increasing our retail volume further and we aim at achieving a new retail peak this year.”
