Skoda Auto eyeing small car market in India

The Indian customer is already waiting for the launch of the Skoda Fabia model in the Indian market. Now, Skoda India has also said that they are eyeing the small car market in the Indian automobile sector. The company has shown all of the major products from the stables at the ongoing Auto Expo being held in New Delhi.

Skoda is also already looking towards as many as six launches this year. However, most of these are expected to be upgrades and new variants of current range of models. SkodaAuto India Managing Director Lukas Folc said in a statement while talking to the reporters at the 8th Auto Expo here in Delhi: ”We are definitely eyeing the small car space as it is a volume segment and we aim to become a significant player in India.”

They have also said that this mass volume model would be made available in both Petrol and Diesel versions. However, no details are revealed on the expected time duration of its launch. Skoda has further said that they have plans to sell 13,500 cars in 2006 as compared to 9,000 in 2005. They have sold more than 25,000 cars in India since its inception in 2001 and have been one of the success stories in the Indian market.

Some of the new launches destined for this year include the A5 manual and the Octavia Classic. Skoda is also scheduled to launch the highly awaited Skoda Fabia model during the current year. In addition, there are plans to expand their dealer network in the country and export models to neighboring countries.

Its high time Skoda Auto came out with the Fabia saloon. The 2007 new fabia should make its way to india. The previous version measureing approx 4222/1646/1449mm is a bit on the shorter side. skoda must improve the rear seat leg room. The newer version of 4232mm in length, too is a bit small when compared to cars coming. Other wise the quality levels of Skodas are best in class.Service networks needs serious looking into. The competition is hot with the likes of Fiesta,Aveo,Accent/Verna and many others coming soon.Fabia Should launch by early 2007 at least to hold ground.Good luck Skoda.

Fabia is a swift lookalike ..only the front and rear lights been modified to make it look slightly different.
skoda is looking for a market where suzuki swift already have a stronghold, so a daunting competiton ahead..may they survive.
