Online Shoppers prefer Google for hunting for gifts
Google might not be an ecommerce giant but it sure searches well. As per incoming reports, online shoppers in America preferred Google’s Froogle service to many specialized shopping portals and comparison sites while doing their holiday season shopping. Internet measurement firm Hitwise claimed that as per their surveys, as much as 11.1 percent of all December shopping-related visits originated with Google.
This is a 28% improvement over the last year statistics. However, eBay continued to dominate the shopping related hits with around 13 percent of retail traffic originating from their servers. Talking about Google, they performed much better than their search competitors Yahoo! and MSN. Yahoo! Search and Microsoft Corp.’s MSN Search drove 4.05 percent and 0.79 percent of retail visits, respectively.
Amazon.com was another shining star, which was the second most visiting shopping site on the internet during the last month of last year. However, they managed to generate just around 0.75 percent of visits to other shopping retailers. The top four shopping sites originating from Google in December were eBay, Amazon.com, Froogle and BizRate.
Digital music download services also noticed a considerable increase in traffic during the holiday season. Apple iPod was a hot search keyword on these shopping sites and the company reported a dramatic improvement in sales of their digital music players.
