Ford has plans to launch a new model next year

Ford India has confirmed that they are sticking to their policy of launching a new vehicle every year. And after launching Ford Fiesta during the last days of 2005, the company now has plans to launch a new model sometime next year. This year won’t see another new model. However, they are expected to refurbish some of its existing products, based on customer feedback.

Ford Ikon and Ford Fusion are some probably products, they might look towards giving some updates this year. A price cut in Ford Fusion is also going to be welcomed by the Indian consumer who still have not identified with this car. Ford is also apparently looking towards improving upon these two models in this year.

Ford launched Fiesta last year and Ford Fusion the year before that. Ford also commands nearly 15% market share in the mid-size segment in India. The company sold around 27000 cars last year in the Indian market. The policy to launch or refresh at least one model in the Indian market was first stated by Ford India’s former managing director, David Friedman.

Friedman had said in a statement made in 2003: “We promise India a new car every year, starting with the Endeavour in the higher-end sports utility vehicle segment.” The company is now also aiming to launching customized disable friendly cars in the Indian market. Maruti used to be the only company making available products in this segment. However, they stopped doing so sometime back.
